Introduction: The lack of information on the risk factors for presenting an acute heart attack
of myocardium is an element that allows increasing its prevalence in our community.
objectives: Identify knowledge of cardiovascular risk factors and barriers
for its modification in a population of Medellín, Colombia.
Methodology: Descriptive study of transverse cut, the population that attended the
days of world heart day and anthropometric variables were recorded. further
It was inquired about the knowledge of the main cause of death in Colombia and in the world, its
intention to make lifestyle changes and barriers to implementing it. It has been made
bivariate analysis according to sex.
Results: Were included 1.324 Adults. He 46% men's vs. he 41,4% Women's
identified coronary heart disease as the leading cause of death. Most men
and women expressed their interest in starting a healthy lifestyle (91,8 vs. 94,5%
p = 0,07). Lack of time was the main barrier. He 2,2% of men and 2,6% of the
women said they did not know how they can start a healthy lifestyle.
conclusion: There is poor recognition of coronary heart disease as a cause of death,
especially in women, lack of time and economic factors are the main
barrier to implement changes in modifiable risk factors.
